A Life Remembered

Obituary

Vernon "Bud" Chauvin, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, in Port Arthur, Texas, at the remarkable age of 99. Born on December 23, 1926, Bud lived a life marked by dedication, ingenuity, and a deep love for his family. He will be remembered for his skilled hands and his passion for creating and fixing, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and care.

Bud attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Port Acres and enlisted in the Marine Corps in December 1944. He served in both World War II and the Korean War, earning the rank of Gunnery Sargent. Bud also belonged to both the VFW Post 4820 and The Marine Corps League.

A proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Bud was a man of faith and community. He was known for his culinary touch, especially for "cooking the rice," a detail that speaks to his role in family gatherings and traditions. Beyond the kitchen, Bud found joy and purpose in his hobbies; he loved working in his yard, meticulously tending to its beauty, and spent countless hours tinkering on machines, always ready to build or repair anything that needed his attention. His ability to mend and create was a testament to his resourceful spirit.

Bud's memory will be cherished by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Marjorie Chauvin Bearden and her husband, Allen, and Patti Chauvin Craig and her husband, Mike. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Shane Bearden, Troy Bearden, Ami Letson and her husband, Wes, Michael Craig and his wife Brooke, and Matthew Craig and his fiancee Rebecca, as well as his seven adored great-grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce LeBlanc Chauvin; his parents, Vernon Michael and Edith Chauvin; and his sisters, Doralee Robicheaux and Doris Chauvin.

A visitation for Bud will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese, the Little Flower Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas 77640.
