Marisela Marroquin, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in Port Arthur, Texas. She was born on November 24, 1958, in Mexico.

In many ways Marisela was like the sun. Radiant. Fiery. Warm. Energetic. Nurturing. Magnetic. Despite her petite stature, there was always a passion and fierceness within her that made her larger than life. Marisela could fill rooms with just her voice. She spoke loudly with conviction, laughed with her whole heart, and sang beautifully and unapologetically. She was hilarious when you least expected it, quick with a response in a discussion, but also with advice if asked. She carried endless knowledge and wisdom, but also enormous talent and creativity.

Marisela was a dancer. Gardener. Poet. Composer. Seamstress. But her creativity really flowed as a baker and cook. Always changing recipes, trying foods from all cultures, and making the most delicious something out of nothing. No matter the recipe, she poured so much love and care into it that her food had a way of healing, comforting, and bringing people together.

Leaving her home in Mexico as a young woman to start a new life in the United States, driving alone across the country, and returning to the workforce after a few decades as a homemaker—Marisela was fearless. She was the first to remember a birthday, sending long, heartfelt messages, putting together thoughtful gifts, or baking an intricate dessert. A person she only just met could receive the same generosity as someone she knew for years. Her kindness was infinite. So was her strength. Marisela courageously faced her final chapter, never surrendering, never wavering in her faith, or letting despair darken her unyielding light.

Marisela made a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate to know her. A beautiful, hardworking, selfless woman whose absence leaves a silence and dimness that feels impossible to fill.

Marisela's memory will be forever cherished by her devoted husband of 38 years, Gilbert Marroquin, and her loving daughters, April and Claudia Marroquin. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Chio, Chony, Mony, and Patty. Marisela was preceded in death by her parents, José Sánchez Contreras and Francisca Rodriguez Chavez, who she now joins in eternal peace.

A visitation to honor Marisela will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 West Parkway, Groves, Texas 77619. The funeral Service for Marisela will be on August 31, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, Groves, Texas, followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.

I honestly have no words to even begin to describe or explain . I am deeply sorry for your loss of such an amazing women. Even if I met her a bit later in my life , Tia Marisela was always such a kind and beautiful soul fueled with love and care for others. I will never forget the time we spent the night at her house and she made us pecan pancakes . That's a memory I will always hold deep in my heart, and I cannot forget the times I would come to visit and she was there with the biggest , most welcoming hug. I loved her and will always treasure the memories I had with her. My deepest condolences..

What an honor it was to be her Nurse! She was fierce, had a smile that could light up a room and made me laugh each time I was there.
