Margaret “Peggy” Lynn Anderson departed this life on August 26, 2026, in Kingwood, Texas. Born on October 24, 1954, in Lafayette, Indiana, Peggy lived a life filled with simple joys, quiet moments, and, above all, a deep love for her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at LaBrie Claybar Funeral Services in Beaumont. Burial will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Beaumont.
Peggy held an Associate’s degree in Management. In her early years, she worked a variety of jobs, including as a fast-food manager in her twenties and a retail personnel manager in her thirties. She later decided to return to school to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She spent many years teaching and helping young minds grow, serving as both an elementary and special education teacher in Beaumont ISD and Port Arthur ISD. She retired after a fulfilling career and cared deeply about the students she taught and the people she worked with.
Beyond her professional life, Peggy found a lot of happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Her evenings were often spent watching timeless classics such as Perry Mason and old westerns. She loved wildflowers and butterflies, and her family made sure to bring her flowers every birthday and Mother’s Day. She also always had a soft spot for animals and spent years making sure the neighborhood’s stray cats were well-fed and cared for.
Peggy was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even when she wasn’t active in the church, she continued to believe and maintained lasting friendships with people she had met there throughout the years.
Above all else, Peggy loved her family deeply. She stayed close to her brothers, even though they lived far away, and she always looked forward to spending time with her children and granddaughter at family gatherings.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Jennifer Anderson and partner Kevin Houston; her beloved son, Hunter Smith; and her granddaughter, Alyssa Jackson. She is survived by her two brothers, Dennis Gunn and wife Chris, and Bruce Gunn and wife Renee. She will also be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews and their spouses: Leslie and Misty King, Mignonne and Paul Gardner, Laura and Phillip Hallsworth, Michael Gunn, Jessie Gunn, and Laura Millett-White, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Martin and Jessie Gunn; her dear sister, JoAnn Janise; and her cherished kitty cats, Hoover, Miss Catty, and Miss Cali, who kept her company and brought her comfort throughout the years.
