Gay DeHart, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, at Houston Methodist The Woodlands in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 95. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on July 14, 1931, Gay lived a life rich in creativity, dedication, and unwavering faith, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Gay earned her Master's Degree in Music from Lamar University, a testament to her passion for the arts. She was also a wonderfully creative seamstress, lovingly crafting costumes for her children and grandchildren, each stitch a thread of her boundless affection.

Gay's life was beautifully centered around her cherished family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Addie Williams; her beloved husband of 53 years, Kimmie DeHart; her brother, Harold Williams; her sister, Chloe Connella; and her granddaughter, Ashely Stout. Her memory will be forever treasured by her loving family: her son, Derrell DeHart and his wife, Debra of Guyton, Georgia; her daughters, Gaylynn DeHart of Magnolia, Texas, and Colleen DeHart Kitay of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim LeBlanc and her husband, Witland of The Woodlands, Colin DeHart and his wife, Cathy of Nederland, Kerri DeHart of Nederland, Adam Stout of Houston, Tyler Kitay of Houston, and Taylor Kitay of Houston; her great-grandchildren, Kameron Lester, Kennedy Schaper and her husband, Austin, Jack DeHart, Bailey Newman, Hannah DeHart, Annalyse LeBlanc, Abigail DeHart, and Andrew DeHart; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Condolences

So many memories of joy, fun, friendship prayers, listening to that beautiful voice singing and laughter, always laughter. We met at Highland Park Elementary, where she taught and I worked as a teacher's aide. She came to visit the workroom (I can still see her sitting on the window ledge, swinging one leg to the beat of her song) where I ran off class lesson copies for the teachers. Thank you, Father God, for sharing the life of this precious, lovely, giggling friend. Her blessings continue in our lives even when she is now in Heaven with You.

I just want to send my condolences to a great person and teacher. I did not know you, but I just wanted to say thank you for doing that extra for the children in your class - for seeing them, believing in them and encourage them to explore their talents. Because of what you did so many years ago for Tim Foust, now a lot of people around the world enjoys his incredible talent. Thank you so much, and rest in peace ❤️

I can’t remember a time in my life when our family did not know the lovely, sweet, talented, amazing Gay Nell! We loved her so much, and though we didn’t get to see each other often after I moved from Texas, we still stayed in touch, and what a joy it was to visit in person on rare occasions! I shall miss sending her our annual Christmas card! Prayers for peace and strength to her family in this new season of your lives and may all the beautiful memories made over the years bring great comfort.

Gary’s daughter,Colleen has been my friend for decades. We love to go to the beach or out to dinner. If Gay was in Houston, she would always join us. What a lovely addition to the group. At the beach, Gay once played the piano and Colleen would sing. We would sing and dance. How many people want their mom at the beach with them? We loved having such joy around us. You will be greatly missed, sweet Gay. 🙏💕

So sorry for your loss. Mrs. DeHart was my music teacher at Highland Park Elementary School in the 90’s. She was a great music teacher and we always had the best programs! I’m 38 years old and my friends and I still talked about her all these years! She will be dearly missed and never forgotten!
