Alton Lee Smith, born on June 30, 1945, in Orange, Texas, passed away in Vidor, Texas, on August 7, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery in Orange, Texas.

Visitation time will be held prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas.

Alton was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam War. In his civilian life, he was a member of the local union and worked as a pile driver. Alton was a proud Texan, held a strong devotion to Orange, and truly cherished his time on the Sabine River. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and football, faithfully supporting the Houston Oilers and later the Houston Texans. Alton had a deep love for animals, always taking great care of his own and often bringing home stray dogs and cats to give them a loving home.

He is survived by his children: Alton Kendall and wife Teresa, Terrell Kendall, Stormye Smith, Michael Smith and wife Bonnie, Brody Smith, and Phillip Smith. Alton also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Letha Willett.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Brody and Rose Smith, and his siblings, Margie Addison, Vernon Smith, Ruby Burleigh, and James Smith.
